Overall rating is 3 due to multiple issues experienced during my stay.
Location and moderate cost are primary reasons for a higher rating.
Issues:
The hotel does not seem well organized.
First, my room was not ready at the published 3pm checkin. I actually arrived around noon, and reception kindly reiterated that check in was not til 3 pm. I was understanding as this is standard across hotels.
Problem was when I returned at 3pm to check in, my room was still not ready. That was frustrating and annoying as i had patiently waited for hours, followed up, and expected hotel staff to honor the policy and be prompt.
Second, day 2 i got locked out of room due to checkin error. I had to return to reception to resolve.
Then I came back to a room that had not been housekept; due to be checkin error, the housekeeping staff thought the room was vacant.
Third, i called reception to advise that housekeeping skipped my room, and i needed clean towels. I had to wait 2 hours for the towels. It wasn't until my 2nd follow up call that reception had apparently forgot my request.
Fourth, it's a bit difficult to circumvent this in Queenstown, but the hotel sits atop a steep hill. Was not fun to have to climb the hill to the hotel, but at least it was good exercise!
Major pro: hotel is less then 10 minutes from the central waterfront and social activities.
Overall, the most disappointing service I've experienced in a hotel in decades.
