Plummet down 13 stories on a very tall slide and bring your kids to the wave pool in one of the oldest water parks in Spain.

A little inland from the beachside skyscrapers, Aqualandia offers a giant aquatic haven for the entire family. Fun slides enter the pools from a range of angles, while Benidorm’s red mountains and thick vegetation surround the complex. Check out some of the 15 water rides that offer thrills and excitement.

Bring the little ones to the colorful fountains, cones and small slides of the Adventureland pool. Toddlers can also try the Mini Zig-Zag ride and the huge Wave Pool. Let your older kids go on the zebra-patterned Zig-Zag or over the rolling bumps of the blue Smooth Slides. Venture into the Black-Hole and then jump aboard a yellow raft for the Rapids.

If you’re a true thrill-seeker, experience the free-fall sensation from the speedy Big-Bang ride. Brace yourself for the park’s most intense structure, the Verti-Go. It is roughly 13 stories high and is said to be the tallest slide in Europe.

Enjoy pizza and other snacks in the bars and restaurants dotted around the park. The available cuisine varies from pizza and burgers to waffles and ice cream.

Walk through the compound’s gardens for a close look at the exotic vegetation from southeastern Spain. Bring a selection of snacks for a picnic on a grassy spot. Other attractions in the park include the souvenir shop and the photography booth.

Get a full-day ticket or consider the less expensive afternoon-only entrance. Discounts for families are available. The park initially opened in 1985, when it was among the first waterparks in Spain.

Aqualandia is in the Urb. Caney district in the northeastern part of Benidorm. Drive 8 minutes northeast from Levante Beach or walk 25 minutes to get here. A transfer is also available from the Alicante Airport.

While in the area, visit nearby sights such as the animal park at Mundomar Benidorm, the cliffs and trails of Sierra Helada Natural Park and the Benidorm Palace concert hall.
