Look out across the ocean from this golden beach in the liveliest area of Búzios and enjoy views of bobbing boats and a delightful statue.

Praia da Armação, or Armação Beach, is a narrow but picturesque strip of sand that runs along the western coast of Búzios. The beach is located just off the main promenade of this lovely resort town. Come here during the day to take a break from browsing the little stores and galleries up on the street. After dark, this is also a wonderful place to escape the hubbub of the nearby bars, restaurants and clubs for a few moments.

Although Búzios is now a favorite spot for tourists seeking a sunny getaway, its economy was once dependent on whaling and fishing. Whaling is no longer legal, but the fishing industry still has an important role here. Stand on Armação Beach early in the morning and see the brightly colored boats heading out to sea. Look for the statue of three fishermen wading into the water, too. The statue was created by local sculptor Christina Motta and it is one of the most instantly recognizable sights from around the town.

Turn away from the ocean and walk back up to Avenida José Bento Ribeiro Dantas, the long, leafy street that runs along the waterfront. This street is packed with some of Búzio’s most popular stores, galleries, bars and restaurants. Follow it to the north and you will hit the pretty Church of Sant’Anna, a low white building with appealing blue paintwork.

If you walk southward along the road instead, you will encounter a statue of film star Brigitte Bardot, who once stayed in the town. Beyond the statue is the scenic Mangue Pier and the renowned Rua das Pedras. Although Rua das Pedras is just an extension of Avenida José Bento Ribeiro Dantas, it is this part of the road that has the reputation of being the town’s nightlife hub.

As you explore Búzios’ main tourist area on the western edge, you will find it impossible to miss Armação Beach. It runs the length of a long strip of the coast. Take a camera along with you when you come. The views from here are among the town’s finest, especially at sunset.
