Cooper Mountain Vineyards featuring farmland
Explore this city in Oregon State for its green spaces and outdoor sports, farmers markets, craft beer and wineries.

The city of Beaverton presents an eclectic network of suburban neighbourhoods with over 100 urban parks and miles of bike paths and hiking trails. Visit for outdoor activities, farmers markets, craft beer and wineries. Beaverton lies in the foothills of Oregon’s scenic West Hills, just a short drive west of Portland.

Go shopping in downtown Beaverton, which is compact and comfortable to explore on foot. Discover antique stores, art galleries, restaurants and coffeehouses in the Historic Downtown District. See work by local artists at the Art on Broadway gallery or watch a theatre production at the Beaverton Civic Theatre. Browse the stalls of the Beaverton Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays for fresh produce, organic and artisan foods. Relax in Beaverton City Park, where kids will enjoy cooling off in the water fountain on warm summer days.

Tualatin Hills Nature Park is one of the city’s major attractions. Follow self-guided walking trails through the 222-acre (90-hectare) nature reserve of lush forests, vast meadows and wetlands. Spot squirrels and snakes, rabbits, deer and varied birdlife. Bring lunch to enjoy at designated picnic areas. Learn about the park’s flora and fauna at the Nature Park Interpretive Centre. Find more trails at Jenkins Estate just south of the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. This picturesque country estate is home to an impressive rhododendron garden.

Experience Beaverton’s winemaking heritage at Cooper Mountain Nature Park. Join a guided tour of the Cooper Mountain Vineyards to sample local wines and take part in gardening seminars. Visit Ponzi Historic Estate, one of the oldest wineries in Oregon, for further wine tasting and sweeping views of Beaverton’s countryside. Beer connoisseurs might enjoy a visit to the Uptown Market. Sample craft beers from around the world, purchase homebrew equipment or take beer-brewing classes.

Being only a 15-minute drive from downtown Portland, many people visit Beaverton and its scenic countryside on daytrips. Public transport such as buses and light rail provide quick access between the two cities. Consider renting a car to access Beaverton’s parks and reserves. Alternatively, take advantage of 25 miles (40 kilometres) of pathways and rent a bicycle.
