Swim, surf, snorkel, paddle and go on coastal walks when you take a trip to Conto Beach. This attractive sandy expanse sits below limestone cliffs and is also where many people come to fish.
Stroll along the sandy shoreline and take in the beautiful ocean views. The long beach is straight for most of its length. At its southern end is a rocky headland called Cape Freycinet.
Conto Beach is a good place to base yourself while exploring some of Margaret River’s principal attractions. These include the nearby Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.
While in the park, visit Cave Works to learn about the ecology, geology and history of the caves in the region. From this interpretive centre, take the steps down into Lake Cave, a deep wonderland of stalactites suspended above the cavern's permanent lake.
Other caves that can be visited in the national park include Mammoth Cave. During the 1990s, thousands of fossils of extinct marsupials were discovered here.
Discover the range of bushwalking trails within the park’s grounds. Another good spot for a hike is Boranup Karri Forest, situated just a few minutes’ drive from Conto Beach. The forest contains lots of karri trees, some of which are more than 60 metres (197 feet) in height. If you don't want to walk, you can also drive through the forest.
Your visit to Conto Bach also puts you within a short driving distance of some of Margaret River Wine Region’s wineries, including Leeuwin Estate and Arlewood. Sample their award-winning Australian wines, learn about their creation and tour a vineyard.
Reach Conto Beach by driving south from the town of Margaret River for about 19 kilometres (12 miles). Enjoy your time in an area of attractive coastal scenery, wonders of nature and renowned wineries.
