First, it is a dump, with the room reeking of mold that even blackens the bathroom grouting. But, my main issue was with its management. Our reservation was non-cancelable and was made through Expedia for payment at the end of our stay. Yet, hours before we left for Daytona Beach I received a call from someone calling from the front desk on “the owner’s instruction” demanding that I give him my credit card number so that he could immediately charge it for our stay there. He threatened to cancel the reservation if I did not give him the card number. This call had all the markings of a credit card scam, since no reputable hotel does such a thing. After telling him that I would call him back, I called the hotel’s phone number. It turned out not to be a credit card scam, for the same person answered the phone. Thus, despite this outrage, I gave him the card number. Perhaps the owner feared that when we saw the room, we would cancel and leave.
When we arrived at Sandals hours later, the check-in person requested to make a copy of my drivers license (what hotel does this?) She also insisted that we sign their list of rules and charged our credit card another $100 as a security deposit. After taking our license plate number, she gave us a small piece of paper for our windshield when parking IN THEIR OWN LOT. If it wasn’t displayed, they would have our car towed even though they could easily identify it as belonging to a guest from the license plate.
