"The hotel was gorgeous! It was very well located near the station, numerous restaurants, and shopping. The buses for temples and shrines as well as tours to the lake and waterfalls were very close by. The onsen was AMAZING and tattoo friendly! The breakfast was plentiful and hearty. I am vegan and my daughter is not. We were both satisfied. The view from the hotel of the mountains was SPECTACULAR! I really wish we had reserved more than one night. I will be back for sure. "

"Amazing hotel with very kind staff. We were treated like royalty the moment we pulled up in our car. The whole arrival and checkin process was very efficient, and the we were offered drinks and snacks in the lounge. The buffet had a good variety of high quality food. The Onsens were very nice and well maintained. The room was very basic and quite dated (probably hasn’t changed much since the 90 s) but this didn’t bother us as they focus on service and quality overall. We really only slept in the room and spent the rest of the time exploring the area. Overall great stay and we’d definitely come back."

"This is our second stay at this hotel. It has fantastic onsens, great Japanese buffet, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Kinu-Tateiwa Otsuribashi, a famous suspension bridge, is right behind the hotel that leads to great sceneries. Hotel is approximately 12 min walk to Kinugawaonsen Station, and offers shuttle bus in the morning to the station by request. Next time we visit Nikko, we definitely go to this hotel again! "

"We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Ootaki and would definitely return. The hotel is very traditional and gives you a real insight into traditional Japanese culture. Although the staff had limited English, this was not a problem for us and they were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The hotel has lots of freebies as part of their service including combs, hairbrushes, shower caps, razors etc. The onsen was very relaxing and the hotel was clean. "
