Fulwood Park

Fulwood Park which includes a garden

This pretty park in Tifton is a great place to enjoy picnics, attend lively festivals and let children have fun on a playground.

Join locals in Fulwood Park, a wooded urban parkland and recreation area popular among Tifton residents. Located a 1-mile walk from Downtown Tifton, it offers a natural refuge near the heart of the city. Fulwood Park covers an area of 28 acres (11 hectares). It has served the local community since 1916 and takes its name from C.W. Fulwood, who was one of the pioneers of Tift County.

The park’s entrance via a stone arch has similarities to a castle gateway. Just past the arch, view an information board with details of current and upcoming events. Within the park are grassy lawns, rows of tall trees and a stream. There are picnic tables, a covered pavilion and restrooms, too.

Wander through the park to find the Confederate Monument. This memorial celebrates the survivors and fallen soldiers of the American Civil War. It features a Confederate soldier standing atop a plinth. To one side is a small cannon.

Let children explore the park’s playground. It has a jungle gym, rope ladders, slides, swings and tunnels.

Time your visit for one of the free family-friendly events held here. Sample delicious barbecue, sip craft beer and watch live music performances at March’s Rhythm and Ribs BBQ Festival. In April, the Arts in Black Festival celebrates the culinary, dance and music culture of African-Americans in Tift County.

In September, the region’s Hispanic communities showcase their traditions at La Fiesta del Pueblo. This 1-day event has food stands, folkloric dance shows and a beauty pageant, among other activities. Come in December to see the superb drive-by Christmas lights, which may include Santa’s sled, reindeer, snowmen and toy soldiers. The lights decorate the lawns and frame the roads that wind around the park.

Get to Fulwood Park easily on foot from Downtown Tifton in about 20 minutes. Parking is available inside the park and along surrounding streets.
