"Kannawaen was the perfect way to end a busy two week Janapn vacation in a quiet and relaxing way. We truly enjoyed our room’s private Onsen, and the two meals we had on the property were both excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were kind and accommodating. The gift shops had beautiful local goods to commemorate our trip. Walking distance to five of the Seven Hells. We loved our experience at Kannawaen and recommend it wholeheartedly to travelers who want a quiet place to relax and unwind. "

"Absolutely wonderful. It is a little pricey for the area and there are a lot more places cheaper, but this place is worth every cent. The service is impeccable, and every one treats you top notch with a smile. Rooms are very roomy for a Japanese Hotel and the view is amazing, especially the sunrise. The onsen is absolutely amazing as well. I plan to stay again in the future. "

"This is really something to be experienced. It is new (2023) and massive - hundreds and hundreds of guests. It is a spa, first and foremost. The rooms are huge, quiet, and elegant; the numerous staff are efficient and multi-lingual. Hot springs in the building, hundreds of guests strolling about in hotel yukata, views of the peaks and ocean. The optional meals are definitely recommended - the food is fantastic and also it is a long hike to get down the mountain. Partner likened it to a luxury cruise ship on land."

"This part of our Japanese trip was terrific in all its aspects. We had a bit of drive, and a late lunch was the first thing on the agenda. We were directed to several nearby restaurants to choose where to go. Our luggage was secured. When we returned and checked in, the customer service was exceptional. We were shown all the facilities, and the owner demonstrated how to use them. I was surprised we had to nominate our mealtimes, but I later understood why. We pre-booked dinner, and it was superb. It included hot and cold dishes and was very filling. The quality of the meal was second to none. After dinner, we enjoyed an onsen that was included in our accommodation. I loved it - the privacy and the experience. The bedding on the floor which for someone who was cramping badly overnight - it proved difficult for me to escape the pain. However, that was a distraction rather than any fault with the facility in the scheme of things. Breakfast was equally good. Overall, this was a fabulous stay, and the hosts were typical of the Japanese, very polite and accommodating. When the next day, we visited many of the sites in Beppu, and we were grateful that we took the opportunity to visit the town and this hotel. "

"Great location if you’re visiting Hyotan Onsen etc. En-suite showers are a little small, and the hot water isn’t very hot (which is strange for a hotel with a hot spring). Not a big deal though because you could just go downstairs and shower in the on site hot spring. The Rooms had a great view of the city and the sea. Overall pretty decent place."
