Treated ourselves to the most expensive room and was disappointed.
The bed was broken (half the legs missing resulting in rolling into middle) and the coffee machine didn’t work. Instructions for the coffee machine didn’t match the machine we had so not much help. The room included champagne service, but there was no mention whatsoever in the room of any room service so still non the wiser what this was ?!
The food wasn’t bad but not as good either. Main even meals were very salty. Selection at breakfast was mediocre at best. Just cereal in boxes and dried fruit in jars the hot menu was good variety but special requests were bit hit and miss. First time ever only 1slice of toast brought to table and hollandaise sauce tasted only of vinegar. Overall disappointed at £300 spent for one night and evening meal.
Enjoyed our stay in the ambience of this delightful 18th century house, very carefully restored for use as an hotel.
Food was good and the room comfortable. The only drawback for two late eighty year olds was that the shower wasn't too easy to use for us. We also had an interesting problem with parking as we parked outside the flood defence wall and when we went to breakfast found the car shut out from the town because of an expected flood with an above normal high tide. We were able to retrieve it later in the morning fortunately.
This was our third stay at The Bank House and the staff in general have always been friendly and helpful. The Bar areas are well appointed and service was good. Our room ( Purfleet ) was at the top of the building and had a nice view over the square. The room itself is a little dated ( Bathroom in particular) but had nice touches like a coffee machine / nibbles etc.
Large lovely room overlooking Great Ouse in ancient building of much charm and history.
Helpful front desk staff.
Area around hotel made one feel as if one were in the Low Countries. Amazing architecture.
Attic room, so a couple of flights of stairs, but the guy at check in carried both our cases upstairs for us. Lovely view of the Great Ouse. We enjoyed people watching from the two window. Appreciated the electric fan in the room.
Breakfast was nice and the staff helpful and pleasant. The lady staff member enjoyed a laugh when she mistook my bearded husband gor another bearded guest.
Property was great. Breakfast was really good. Area around the hotel was pretty dead, but there were a few good restaurants. Public parking was difficult to navigate
12 bedrooms in an historical building next to the River Ouse with plenty of car parking and within easy walking distance of rail and bus stations and the town centre. Locally the Bank House is known for its restaurant, which did not disappoint. A lovely room also. The electric shower was slow to work and difficult to control, but that was my only complaint. I'd stay there again.
