Very quiet hamlet near the river Avon estuary as it discharges into the English channel so very pretty setting. Close to Burgh Island which I could just see the top of from my upstairs bedroom window.
Very plain inside the pub; lovely friendly staff; had a main evening meal, not particularly good, very dry fish pie which had been microwaved to death and the following day all three of us had a dicky stomach and the runs. Streptococci no doubt.
Over cooked poached eggs for breakfast but otherwise breakfast and choices ok.
Wouldn't go back.
3 nights stay which was lovely. We had dinner in the restaurant each evening and enjoyed the food. The position is great really quiet area but close to Salcombe if you wish and also the coastal path. We will be back.
We loved it. Bearing in mind the very stressful time they have been going through the staff were very kind and efficient. We had a comfortable and very pleasant stay.
Surprised the cleanliness was not adequate at all, bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly, bedroom cobwebs, dusty, a real shame as was a special occasion.
Dinner and breakfast was good.
When we asked for extra tea/milk it never materialised...
Good location.

Flawed but something special
Amazing location, incredible beach, food was excellent, but parking is a major problem and be warned it's a few miles of single lane with passing places to get there. Also you need to book a dinner a few days in advance and there is nowhere else to get food. Place needs better upkeep. You had to barge our room door to open, my wife could not. The bathroom door would not close. The shaver light did not work. Minor annoyances on service. Room had three sheets of toilet paper. We asked for more and they gave us one roll of cheap paper. Had to ask for another roll every breakfast. One of the best breakfasts I have had at a b&b
So if you just want a hide away retreat with a stunning beach and great local walks and you book the restaurant in advance then this would be great. As a base for exploring the area not so!
In difficult times the staff tried very hard. Distancing well organised.
Two staff forgot to bring a jug of water to the table during supper.
Chicken dish was uncooked.
Sticky tables. (they are everywhere these days - I HATE this)
The swinging sign kept us awake for two nights, ask for some WD40 and string to no avail. (Management knew about this problem)
Room was not serviced after 1st night.
Asked to re-use towels - Heated towel rail did not work.
Returned home early.

Service was very good during breakfast.
Most staff members were very friendly.

Shower and wash bassin were dirty and had not be cleaned before my arrival!!!!
One staff member reacted very unfriendly and became rude when I informed him about the dirt.
Room was rather small and worn out.
Dinner took extremely long.
-> no recommendation (way overpriced)
A super little place, a country pub with a lively atmosphere. The room was spotless and comfortable with a proper bathroom. The shower was a bit tricky to adjust but fine in the end. The breakfast was excellent. Bantham is a really unspoilt corner of Devon.
