"The property offered a welcome respite from the hustle of Tokyo. Getting there is easier via express train but not necessary. You don’t need to bring a lot with you because they provide extremely comfortable clothes, slippers, and even socks while you’re on the property. Same with toiletries. "Quiet cultural experience. We were the only foreigners we could see. Beautiful property, view and area. Not a lot of places to visit but enough for 1-2 days. FYI This property is not at the Nikko city but the Nikko area. Large buffet and free drinks. Beds on the floor and daughter was really on the floor but all part of experience. If you want a quiet experience away from the city then this is great- even better with small children as has a pool park next door. "

"**FOR AMERICANS** This is the real experience and extremely authentic. If you are looking for a true traditional Japense onsen, this is for you. Also, be aware that this is not in Nikko proper - and a bit tricky to get to - you need to take a Tobu Nikko train from Nikko to Kinugawaonsen Station.Be aware that the staff speaks VERY limited English so try to communicate with them ahead of time to plan. "This is our second stay at this hotel. It has fantastic onsens, great Japanese buffet, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Kinu-Tateiwa Otsuribashi, a famous suspension bridge, is right behind the hotel that leads to great sceneries. Hotel is approximately 12 min walk to Kinugawaonsen Station, and offers shuttle bus in the morning to the station by request. Next time we visit Nikko, we definitely go to this hotel again! "

I booked this hotel because we were planning to go to Edo Wonderland (kind of like a Renaissance Fair for Japan, you can dress up and interact with other characters, LARPing). "The place was super clean and comfortable. Close to the Kinugawa Onsen Station. However it’s a bit far if your main interest is to go see the shrines in Nikko. No convenience stores nearby. It would take good 20 min to walk to the nearest grocery store. 2 min by car. It’s a great place if you have a car. "

"Ideal room setup for a family with small kids. The futons can be closed off with the partition allowing for separation between kids and adult. Shower and onsen were spacious and the room came with kitchenette including stove, fridge and microwave. Good location within walking distance of restaurants, stores and some local attractions. "

"The surrounding area is beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rate included breakfast which was nice. However, this is an all-smoking room hotel - contrary to what it’s listed as. There was no noticeable odor in the room, but might not be the same for all. And they’re having trouble with the hot spring source so there’s no onsen water to the room balcony baths (my main reason for booking), and their regular hot spring will be sometimes closed. That was the most disappointing part. "
