Found this hotel as a great place to stay when traveling to Piza or Lucca. Comfortable place to come back after a long day sightseeing and the food was very good. I would go back.

Lovely, quiet hotel
A lovely, comfortable, clean, small hotel between Lucca and Pisa with parking and a lift (for us old timers who struggle with luggage.) The hosts were very hospitable and wonderful! The restaurant at the site was wonderful in the evenings--delicious and very reasonably priced. The house wine was great. Among the dishes we ate were risotto, meat-filled ravioli Tuscan style, a substantial appetizer of mussels and clams, linguini with lobster, spaghetti carbonara, and spaghetti ala frutte de mari. All were wonderful, not to mention good pana cotta, creme brûlée, and tiramisu. I would love to return again!

Great location between Pisa and Lucca
We arrived late but the proprieters waited for us. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was perfect. We did not plan to visit Lucca but were encouraged to check it out. It was lovely and one of our favorite stops on our trip. Lovely city!

Good small Family run hotel
We have stayed at this hotel on various occasions over the past 3 years and have always been really pleased. The hotel is the perfect base from which to explore this part of Tuscany or as a staging post following a late arrival / early departure flight from Pisa. It is situated virtually midway between Pisa and Lucca (about 15 minutes to both) and very easy to find especially from Pisa airport (see hotel web site) A family run hotel with ample free parking, the staff are always welcoming, polite and very helpful for ideas of places to visit, many off the beaten track and away from the normal tourist haunts – delightful. The rooms we have had over the years have all been very airy and clean with TV, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. The bathrooms are functional and clean with good showers, fresh towels are always available if required. In our last room opening the doors onto our veranda gave us an excellent view over the mountains and although the hotel is situated on a fairly busy road only minimal noise could be heard. Breakfast is always excellent with a choice of the usual meat, cheeses, bread, croissants, local cakes, yogurts and fresh fruit. Coffee, tea, fruit juices or fresh chilled water is also available. The staff are always very cheerful at breakfast and can’t do enough for you. The breakfast table is always kept topped up and coffee refilled if required, it really sets you up for the day. The hotel restaurant is very popular with great freshly prepared food.

Excellent roadside hotel/restuarant
Stayed one night in January at this small, family-run roadside hotel/restaurant between Pisa and Lucca. Short drive to either one from here. Parking out front. We were the only hotel guests that night. Room/bathroom entirely satisfactory, easily meeting 3-star standards. Restaurant is named "Skipper" and emphasizes seafood, but has a full, diverse, and typical Italian menu. Very popular with locals and was rapidly filled the night we were there. Dinner was excellent. Simple breakfast, but fully adequate with prosciutto, cheese, usual cornetti, rolls, juices, coffee, etc. Owner is congenial and helpful. Would definitely stay and eat here again.

Nice little hotel
We had a nice stay in the Hotel Da Carlos. The hotel room was nice and clean. Hotel is conveniently located close to Pisa, Lucca (one hour from Florence). Hotel management was also very nice and helpful.

Overnight hotel
The room itself was clean but quite small and smelled a bit like old and it was a bit cold. The best thing about this hotel it is restaurant with good choice of food and drinks. We liked the atmosphere, very typical italian restaurant which got used to. The rest is just on average level. Suitable for one overnight.

Fantastic Hotel
I found the hotel to be far better than I was expecting, the rooms were very clean and the shower was spot on. Im very pleased to have stayed there. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help us Over all I would defiantly recommend this hotel to everyone. Loads of free parking as well

Delightful! Hard bed, but small problem. Ate breakfast on the patio, and was served proscuto and cheese and delicious coffee, and served ourselves from the breakfast buffet. Wi fi worked!!! first reliable in Italy region.... overall terrific value.

This was a last minute reservation. We had to stay in the Pisa area due to a delayed flight. The staff was great, so was the room. Amazing restaurant in the hotel, not expensive and authentic Italian cuisine. Breakfast was included as well. VERY satisfied, would go back!

A very homely hotel in a very nice location.
The hotel is in a very good location if you want to stay away from the centre of Pisa. We wanted to visit the countryside and hired a car and the hotel's location was perfect to travel to nearby Tuscan towns and villages. We had booked for 8 nights stay. The breakfast was very decent and very filling. The place felt very homely. Unfortunately, we had just spent two nights in the hotel when my wife's father passed away and we had to cut short our holiday. The hotel staff were very helpful, helping us to use print our boarding pass for the next available flight back to the UK. I will definitely go back to this place and I look forward to dining in their restaurant. We tried the restaurant just a couple of minutes down the road and we were very impressed with their food and their local wine. If the standard at that restaurant is anything to go by, I can only imagine that the food Hotel Da Carlos will be equally as good if not better. All in all, I will return back to this hotel and would highly recommend it to friends and family.

Warm and friendly family run hotel
There is a friendly local atmosphere about the Hotel Da Carlos and the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Clean bedroom with balcony, fridge,sat tv and wireless internet. Very good continental breakfast and the best coffee in the area.

Rural Charm
We had a great time at the hotel. We wished we had not wasted time in Florence and Pisa, (very touristy). There is much to see in Lucca and we didn't have time to explore. We loved the room but the best was the personal care of those attending to us. The best part was eating the complimentary breakfast. Homemade croissants, fresh pastries, fresh prosciutto and cheeses. Personalized coffee of any type made to perfection. Owner loves to serve. What a great stay. Downside was a firm bed.

Lovely Family Run Hotel
We have just returned from a seven day stay at Hotel Da Carlos. The hotel was well positioned with easy access to Pisa and Lucca. We had a room with a balcony which had stunning views. Although the hotel was located on a fairly busy road, our room was at the side, so noise was not overly intrusive and completely blocked with windows and shutters closed. We ate in the restaurant twice, the 2nd time on Saturday evening, when it was very busy with people arriving after 10pm and still being served! The food was very good, but prices were a little more than in Lucca. House wine was cheap but a good choice wherever we ate. What made our stay extra special by the owner, who went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our time in Tuscany, recommending the best places to visit and drawing maps of how to get there. He even prepared an earlier breakfast for us on the day we left, so that we got to the airport on time – with advice on the best route to take. Exceptional service and highly recommended!

Beautiful Views and Friendly Staff
We went to Italy for the first time and stayed at the hotel da carlos near Lucca. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and there is a nice restaurant located next door which was very good. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout our 5 day stay and went out if their way to help us get the most from the beautiful area. The Hotel is served by local buses every hour or two which link to Lucca or Pisa so you wouldn't necessarily need to hire a car although it may make the trip easier.

Pleasant Retreat
This is a pleasant hotel half way between Pisa and Lucca and makes a good base for touring, especially if you have your own car. The staff were helpful but had limited English (but still much better than my Italian) which could have been an issue if we had had any problems, but we did not. We were given ideas for visits and when a vending machine appeared near our room were asked if it was causing a problem-it did not.
