"Great hotel that is right next to the best base area at zao onsen resort! The junior suite was incredible, I really liked the Japanese styling with full western amenities. It was extremely spacious and having two in room ac units for the living room and bedroom was great. We never ate dinner at the hotel but my sister and I both really enjoyed the breakfast buffet both days we had it. Additionally despite a language barrier I found the service to be excellent. Hotel staff came out of the hotel to carry our bags in, and they were very helpful getting us shuttled to the bus station when we left. My only complaints are price and the indoor onsens. It was very expensive in early February, as nice as the room was, the rest of the facility didn’t quite match the price tag. Additionally the indoor onsen water smelled slightly of chlorine and doesn’t feel like it is sourced from the local sulfur springs. Personally I’d recommend skipping them and just going into town for the public baths unless it’s really late"

"Had an amazing 5 nights at Tsuruya. A very comfortable room with soft sleep mats, low table and chairs and 2 sitting chairs. We had full board and the meals were exceptional. Very fresh Japanese meals. We loved the outdoor onsen - it was a treat to sit in the hot mineral water while being snowed on. The best part of our stay was the friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way for us - either with hints of where to ski, how to eat meals or general interest in our day. Given we have no Japanese, communication was not difficult. Tsuruya also offers shuttles to the 3 main ski slopes although it is only a 5-10 min walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back next year."

"We did not use the onsen and we were only here for one night. Things to note… it’s very hard to travel around this area! No Ubers lol. We were able to get people to call us taxis so make sure to have cash! We loved our traditional room, I just wish for foreigners they had instructions. Other than that, we had a great stay :) very peaceful and beautiful area. The view of the mountain was awesome! "

"The hotel was good. The room was big enough, and had a bathtub and fridge, and the other usual amenities. I didn't have a meal included, but I did buy one 1400 Yen breakfast buffet, and it was really good. The only 'negative' was the walking distance from the JR station, but that was how I picked it, also because it was cheaper to rent. The nearest grocer wasn't convenient either, even a further walk than the JR station to reach a MaxValu/AEON type store."
