Since 1906, Pannal Golf Club has welcomed some of the best of the U.K.’s golfers to its bright green lawns. The only course in North Yorkshire to be certified as an Open qualifier venue, it is designed to be both challenging and welcoming, making it a worthy destination for anyone looking to practice his or her golf game while on vacation. Take a break from Harrogate’s famous hot springs and test your game on a golf course redesigned in the early 20th century by the famous Alister MacKenzie.
Stride straight out onto the greens or book a lesson at the Golf Studio, where professionals can help improve stance, strokes and putting for golfers of all ages, including children. Go out onto the moorland greens, whose occasional gusts of wind, generally blocked by the stands of pine trees, add an element of exciting uncertainty to every game.
Look out into the distance. Try not to let the views distract too much from your game, but be sure to sneak a peek as you walk over the gently undulating terrain. Imagine yourself as one of the elite golfers who have played at this club, from the competitors of the English Amateur Championship to those qualifying for the British Open.
End the day in the recently renovated clubhouse with views over the course itself. Put your feet up with a nice glass of beer and watch other players swinging at their golf balls.
Reach Pannal Golf Club in a short drive from the center of Harrogate or take the bus in 10 minutes. There is a pro shop on site and parking is available. Book tee times online. Generally visitor availability is only during the week, though visitor tee times will occasionally be open on Saturdays. There is a strict dress code for golfing and a smart casual one in the clubhouse check online for regulations. The kitchen and bar are open daily, from mid-morning to early evening.
