Runaway Bay Beach

Enjoy the utterly serene ambiance on this isolated strand, go horseback riding and gaze up at the rocky Corbinson Point.

Runaway Bay Beach is a sublime strip of white sand bordered by a scenic blue-green ocean. It is fairly secluded and has a peaceful atmosphere, away from the cruise ship crowds and the bustle of city life. Bring a book to these tranquil shores and listen to the soothing sound of light waves.

Walk along the beach and feel the soft sand between your toes. It has been compared to talcum powder. Lay down a blanket for a picnic, with the scenic backdrop of Runaway Bay and the green surrounding hills in the distance. Spot the rocky Corbinson Point at the northern end of the beach.

Rent a beach chair and umbrella and enjoy some relaxing sunbathing. Cool down with a swim in the crystal clear water and go snorkeling to catch a glimpse of colorful fish swimming around your feet.

Go on a horseback riding tour of the strand, which you can organize at one of the huts on the beach. The horse keepers will take memorable photos of you and your family with the majestic creatures. Relax at the restaurant and bar, where you can watch the sunset while sipping drinks.

Note that the beach is particularly quiet, as no cruise ship tours arrive here. The adjacent Dickenson Bay has larger crowds and more of a buzz. Arrive at Runaway Bay Beach for the sunrise to have the picturesque views to yourself. Purchase trinkets and souvenirs from the occasional vendors. Stay at one of the small hotels in the area.

Find Runaway Bay Beach, which is also known as simply Runaway Beach, just south of the Dickenson Bay area in the northwestern corner of Antigua. Drive north from the heart of St. John’s for about 10 minutes to get here. You can also arrive via taxi. See some of the nearby sights, such as McKinnon’s Salt Pond, Fort James Beach and St. John’s Harbour.
