With more than 10,000 artifacts, including a late 19th-century steam locomotive, this museum is the perfect place to learn about Savannah’s rich history.

Savannah History Museum preserves two National Historic Landmarks and features many exhibits and artifacts. See the bench from the acclaimed 1994 film Forrest Gump alongside many artifacts from the American Civil War, the Revolutionary War and other Georgian military campaigns.

Located in the Central of Georgia Railway Train Shed in Tricentennial Park, this museum features artifacts from the beginning of Savannah’s recorded history in 1733 through to the present day. See a remarkable steam locomotive built in the late 19th century. View a car that predates the Ford Model A, known as the 1902 Crestmobile.

Learn about the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Juliette Gordon Low. See a carriage owned by Low’s family and other artifacts relating to Low’s influential life in 19th- and 20th-century Savannah. This wonderful historical museum also features interactive activities, including a trivia quiz, a sketch studio and exhibits for children.

Take a short walk from Savannah History Museum to Georgia State Railroad Museum in Tricentennial Park. See a fully operational train turntable and many historic steam and diesel locomotives. This railroad museum also features guided tours and train rides. Wander through this historic railroad operations complex and see 13 of the complex’s original structures.

The Savannah Children’s Museum is also located in Tricentennial Park and is perfect for a day out with the family. This outdoor museum features games and learning activities. Play chess or enjoy a range of musical and educational programs. Watch the kids explore an extensive network of playground equipment.

Savannah History Museum is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day and a modest admission fee applies. Find the museum in Tricentennial Park in Savannah’s historic downtown district. Suitable accommodation, excellent restaurants and many other attractions are located in Savannah’s downtown area. Parking is available at Tricentennial Park for a small fee.
