Solleftea is famous for beautiful nature and exciting outdoor activities, but this town in northern Sweden also offer relaxation, fascinating prehistoric sights and fun things to do for the youngest travellers.
A holiday in Solleftea places you in the middle of the beautiful county of Angermanland. Anglers won't even have to leave the urban surroundings to engage in outdoor activities - at the unique fishing spot Nipstadsfisket you can angle for salmon right in the middle of town. If you prefer wild angling you can invest in a fishing package, which lets you explore several fishing waters where you can catch pike, perch, charr, whitefish and rainbow trout.
Those with other interests can explore the river on a Beaver Safari och pan for gold at Farm Backsjön. In summer they also offer donkey rides in the forest, and in the winter you can try dogsledding. If you are visiting Solleftea in winter Hallstaberget is another must. Here you will find one of Sweden's largest ski resorts where you can try your hand at everything from cross country skiing, to biathlon and ski jumping. As if that's not enough, Solleftea also has an array of hiking trails and outdoor swimming spots.
Families can head for a day out at Junsele Zoo. There is a petting zoo for the smallest children and a playground with carousels. Older kids will enjoy seeing exotic animals like white tigers while adults will appreciate the nostalgic farm yard café and the old style grocery shop.
If you like history and educational activities for the children, you can't miss the rock carvings by Namforsen. This is Europe's largest ancient rock carving sites, with around 2600 carvings. The oldest amongst them are over 6000 years old. At Solleftea Museumyou can learn more about the carvings. The permanent collection teaches you more about the forest, the river and the ancient history of Angermanland county.
Go on a daytrip to the charming and culturally rich village of Ramsele. It's an hour away by car and it is well worth the trip. Hantverkshuset, or "the craft house", next to Ramsele Hembygdsgard has an art exhibition and a shop that sells local crafts. Quilts, weaving, embroidery, smithwork, woodwork, ceramics and fresh produce can be found here, and everything is made in the local area by craftsmen and women. While you're here, pop into Ramsele Old Church with its beautiful paintings from the 17th century.
